Overnight and continuing this morning, National Fuel crews have been investigating odor of gas calls from customers throughout Hamburg, NY. Within the last hour it was discovered that odorant pumps from a nearby natural gas facility were pumping elevated levels of the required mercaptan (the rotten eggs smell added to odorless natural gas for easy detection) into the gas system and it has been adjusted. Odorant levels are beginning to stabilize.
For the continued safety of all customers, National Fuel does request that anyone smelling the rotten eggs odor in or around their home should contact the utility to report it by calling 1-800-444-3130. A field service representative will be dispatched to monitor the situation.
National Fuel appreciates the assistance and apologizes for any inconvenience.
