Big Tree VFC - Training (Vehicle Extrication)
The Big Tree Volunteer Fire Company conducted a readiness preparedness drill to test their ability to respond to a motor vehicle crash involving multiple entrapped patients. The drill kicked off at 7:00 PM with a dispatch report of a vehicle rolled over. Upon arrival, Assistant Chief Robert Stoberl notified dispatch of a vehicle rolled over with power lines down across the vehicle. Additionally, Chief Stoberl notified dispatch of multiple victims and requested extrication teams from Big Tree to respond along with mutual-aid EMS providers from the Blasdell Volunteer Fire Company.
As the drill progressed, Big Tree extrication technicians rose to the challenge and successfully extricated the patients in a timely and efficient matter. Complicating the extrication was the fact that the vehicle's roof was situated against a telephone pole which had the potential to interfere with extrication techniques. Crew members didn't miss a beat and successfully worked around the obstruction.
Hats off to all who participated in this drill. The degree of proficiency exhibited proves that Big Tree stands ready to meet any challenge that may arise.
